was as pricy as other stompboxes I might have some complaints, but it’s really the best deal i’ve seen. It sounds better with flat eq than most i’ve heard, jack and battery compartment seem sturdy, and the output signal is strong enough. It does move around a bit if you’re not really careful. I made this a good deal better on mine with some adhesive furniture grip squares.”

Much better output than a passive unit and though I’m doing a fair amount of processing on my end (some reverb, a pitch shift and careful EQ) by the time I was done with it it actually DOES sound like a kick. Even sans all that, it does the job. I opened it up just to see what was inside and was surprised to see that it’s a standard humbucker rather than a piezo of some sort. There’s a piece of metal in the wooden top that whacks the piezo, creating the sound. This actually means your target is pretty small (it’s easy to kick a non-sensitive part of the box) and for better or for worse there’s not much variation to the sound (dependent on pressure, but material – foot, shoe, boot – doesn’t seem to matter – I view this as a positive because it means I don’t have to wear the same shoes / worry about the flooring every night) – but it’s probably a LOT more resilient than a piezo, whose crystals would eventually be smashed doing this sort of work.
